Elizabeth Curtis, 27, of 1222 Baker St. remains in the Lucas County jail in lieu of $20,000 bond. She could be sentenced to five years in prison if convicted.
According to a police report, she tested positive for HIV in March, 2008.
Ms. Curtis, who has a lengthy misdemeanor record for solicitation and loitering, was arrested Nov. 17 on Lagrange Street after she approached the parked car of undercover officers and offered sex acts in exchange for money. She told the officers condoms weren’t needed because she was “clean,” according to a police report.
During a subsequent records check and interview, police found Ms. Curtis had learned she was HIV positive in March, 2008, when tested at a women’s shelter. She told the detective she works as a prostitute “almost every day” and “often” has sexual intercourse without condoms.
