Over the two days of trial, witnesses from the neighborhood where Ms. Johnson’s body was found testified about the last time they saw the woman and how her body was discovered partially hidden in a bush in a central city alley near Bancroft and Fulton streets. Also testifying were emergency personnel, nurses, and a deputy county coroner about the marks on Ms. Johnson’s neck and her death – after four days unconscious in the hospital – from complications of strangulation.
Witnesses testified that Ms. Johnson was known to be a prostitute and drug user who lived near the alley where she was found and who frequently would be seen walking in the area. Many testified that they would see Johnson watching her nearby.
