David Abalos, 24, and his brother, Nicholas, 21, both of Temperance, each faced one count of aggravated robbery and two counts of assault. A third defendant, Gustave Leroy, 24, of Kalamazoo, was charged with assault.
A Lucas County Common Pleas Court jury reached the verdicts after deliberating about nine hours over two days. David Abalos, who faces up to six months in prison, is to be sentenced Oct. 26 by Judge Denise Ann Dartt.
“These boys were adamant that they did nothing wrong,” said attorney John Thebes, who represented Nicholas Abalos. “There were varying degrees of responsibility. Nicholas Abalos was adamant that he did nothing wrong, and the jury validated that.”
Authorities said a group of nine men were leaving Scarlett’s strip club Jan. 25 after attending a bachelor party. They encountered two detectives, who said during the trial they were at the club as part of an investigation.
