Murder suspect in strip club stabbing to stand trial
A Monroe man accused of stabbing an adversary during a fist outside a strip club was ordered to stand trial for murder.
Wearing a striped jail uniform during a court hearing Tuesday Shawn Wyatt, 22, of 7912 Parkway Dr., sat and listened as his lawyer argued unsuccessfully before a judge to have the charge lowered to manslaughter.
Temperance attorney Edward Swinkey argued before First District Judge Terrence Bronson that prosecutors did not offer enough evidence to show that Mr. Wyatt intentionally stabbed Michael Gorowski in the arm during a fight in the parking lot of Alcatraz in Erie on March 11. Therefore, he said, it should not be murder.
“At worst it’s only manslaughter,” Mr. Swinkey said.
But the judge decided that evidence presented during the preliminary examination, which covered two days of hearings, showed Mr. Wyatt should be tried as charged and be remanded to jail.
